Marymount offers five education-degree focuses, along with certificates to diversify and enhance your program in these areas:

Administration & Supervision, MEd

Take the lead in education through the MEd in Administration & Supervision, which equips those in education to step into roles such as assistant principal, principal, and more. Prepare for leadership in public, private and Catholic school settings as you earn your Administration & Supervision license through the Virginia Department of Education for grades PK-12.

Curriculum & Instruction, MEd

Prepare to make your impact in education through innovation in curriculum design and instructional approaches with the MEd in Curriculum & Instruction. Channel your learning toward your areas of interest through four concentration paths, including curriculum & instruction, special education and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). Benefit from insights of other MEd majors through integrated classes.

Elementary Education, MEd

Prepare to teach learners at the PreK-6 level in a variety of school settings through an MEd in Elementary Education. Benefit from course specific field and a 14-week student-teaching internship at a PreK-6 school at one of our public, private or parochial school partners in the metro D.C. area. Gain a broader perspective on your approach to education through engagement with peers in other MEd tracks in integrated classes.

Secondary Education, MEd

Develop your instructional approach to secondary level education and prepare for teaching in a number of middle school and high school settings through this MEd in Secondary Education. Designed for those who seek licensure to teach biology, chemistry, earth science, English, history and social science, mathematics, or physics. Benefit from field experience through a 14-week student-teaching internship at one of our school partners in the metro D.C. area.

Special Education, MEd

Those with an interest in teaching students with diverse learning abilities can prepare for this education specialty in K-12 school settings through the MEd in Special Education. Besides collaborating with faculty on innovative research that can have real-world impact, students can take advantage of field experiences at private, public and parochial schools in the metro D.C. area. Students can complete this licensure program in two years.

Certificates

You can enhance your education and experience with a certificate concentration. These 15-credit certificate programs prepare students to apply skills and knowledge in one of the following specialized areas:

 

Special Education

Prepare to teach and support students with diverse learning abilities through this graduate certificate program. Learn various strategies in key areas, from implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to diagnostic and corrective literacy instruction.

 

Educational Leadership

Learn to bring out the best in others by applying and adapting your leadership style, managing the conditions that drive team performance, overcoming obstacles, and uniting a learning community with common goals and a core set of values.

 

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) 

Meet the needs of an ever-growing, highly technological global community. You’ll experience hands-on applied learning led by highly skilled faculty who bring real-world expertise into the classroom.
